The spirally-reeded column is a feature often found on Irish furniture. There is a pair of similar dumb-waiters illustrated in the dining-room at Carton, Co. Kildare (S. O'Reilly, Irish Houses and Gardens, London, 1998, p. 78). It is possible that these dumb-waiters were made by the Dublin firm of cabinet-makers Mack, Williams and Gibton. A dining-table attributed to them, with very similar acanthus-carved legs, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 8 July 1999, lot 109.
