A pair of Imari dishes
Edo Period (late 17th/early 18th Century)
Decorated in iron-red enamel, gilt and underglaze blue, with a vase, stylised dragons to each side, containing peony in a central roundel, surrounded by a band of cockerels and chrysanthemums, the foliate, everted rim with a phoenix spreading its wings before Mount Fuji, bellflowers and chrysanthemums, the reverse with sprays of flowers and a band with scrolling foliage and flowerheads, a spray of plum and chrysanthemum to the base
