Katana Mei: Awataguchi Omi no Kami Tadatsunsa and dated Jo-o 1 (1652); Wakizashi Mei: Koshu ju Kaneie and dated Tensho 2 (1574), Both blades 19th Century
The katana blade honzukuri, iorimune, torii zori with extended chugissaki, ko-itamehada, hamon is sugu-kogunome of nioi, boshi obscure, ubu nakago, 27in. (69.1cm.); the wakizashi blade honzukuri, iorimune, deep torii zori with extended chugissaki, itamehada with ji-nie, midare hamon of nie, boshi chu-maru, ubu nakago, 19in. (48.4cm.); each blade with a full length horimono of a snake on the shinogi-ji and mune, in their black lacquer saya, each entwined with a full length brown lacquer snake, the tsuka formed as rotting wood similarly decorated with snakes, cast copper tsuba formed as rotting wood entwined with snakes, gilt details, inscribed Sekijoken Motozane [by Imperial Command] and dated to 1812, copper kozuka decorated with a gilt frog, signed Tounsai Mitsuyoshi, the metal mekugi similarly made as frogs, copper wari-kogai formed as the snake's tongue emerging fron its mouth, the sageo fashioned as snakes, 19th century (2)
