AN ECHIZEN SEKI SCHOOL KATANA AND A SUKESADA BLADE
The First Katana Mumei: Attributed to Hirotaka of Echizen, 17th Century; The second Katana Mei: Bishu Osafune Sukesada dated Tensho 7 (1579)
The blade honzukuri, iorimune, very shallow tapering torii zori with chugissaki (Kanbun Shinto shape), nagare itame hada with ji-nie, gunome-midare hamon of nie with ashi, o-maru boshi, atobori bo-hi both sides of the blade, suriage nakago, 26in. (67cm.); in a service mounting, the tsuka inlaid with a silver mon, with its leather and red felt service belt and red zigzag tassel of General Officer, together with a kicho certificate by the N.B.T.H.K and documentation; the second blade honzukuri, iorimune, koshi zori with chugissaki, itame-mokume hada with ji-nie, ko-midare hamon of nioi and nie with sunagashi, chu-maru boshi, ubu nakago, 27in. (69.1cm.); in a Naval Kyo-gunto mounting a silver mon on the tsuka (2)
