This portrait relates in broad terms to the half-length portrait of the Queen which Van Dyck painted circa in 1632 soon after his arrival in England (for which see sir O. Millar, Tudor Stuart and Early Georgian pictures in the collection of her Majesty the Queen, London, 1963, I, p. 97, no. 147, II, pl. 67).
