This view of Shoreham from across the Bay shows the parish church of St. Mary's built in 1871 in the centre of the picture and the Norfolk Bridge, commissioned by the Duke of Arundel and which was demolished in 1922, to the left.
The coastline between Shoreham-on-sea and Brighton was a favourite subject of Constable's. He painted Shoreham itself on several occasions, one view of Shoreham Bay is now in the Fitzwilliam Museum and another in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
