KELLY, Grace.
Photograph signed ("Grace de Monaco"), also signed by Prince Rainier. Black and white, 7 x 5 in., minor tape remnants on verso, a few stresses to the photograph. With this lot is a signed ("Grace de Monaco"), First Day Cover, Monaco, 19 April, 1956, being the stamp series featuring the royal couple. A fairy tale with a tragic ending. The daughter of a former Cover girl and a wealthy industrialist, Grace Kelly was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Mogambo (see Lot 140); she won Best Actress the following year for her role in The Country Girl. While working on her third Hitchcock film To Catch a Thief (See Lot 203), she met Prince Rainier III, ruler of Monaco and in 1956 they married. Grace retired from the screen and, at 52, was still one of the world's most elegant and beautiful woman, when the car she was driving plunged down a steep embankment in the Cote d'Azur mountains and exploded into flames. She perished in the accident, the circumstances of which are still a mystery.
