Together with a typed letter signed of Roosevelt's secretary thanking Hilton for sending the President a copy of Lost Horizon, Washington, D.C., 23 October, 1937. 1 page, 4to, with original envelope.
Roosevelt responds to a letter from Hilton revealing the author's inspiration for Lost Horizon: "I used to be familiar with that area which embraces Paternoster Row and St. Paul's Cathedral and now that I know how the name Shangri-La came to you there is nothing to do but to welcome the Lost Horizon country to membership in the United Nations."
