Lot Essay

Director William Wellman's superb combat flying sequences helped Wings win the very first Academy Award for Best Picture. The star power of Clara Bow and Charles "Buddy" Rogers also contributes to this film's enduring appeal. Besides the great portrait, this card is a prime example of the unique deco-like graphics of the 1920's, especially the use of the many colored planes in the border art.
