Provenance
The important thing here, aside from the fact that we could easily imagine Marilyn arriving at a gala with this fiery red accouterment, is the provenance. The consignor's father was Tommy Noonan, who appeared with Ms. Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. While visiting on the set Mr. Noonan's fiance met and became friendly with Ms. Monroe, with whom she shared the same birthday. The two girls hit it off, and over the course of their friendly association, the future Mrs. Noonan remarked on how much she admired this bag. Marilyn graciously made it a gift.
