New York: Littig & Co., [ca. 1910]. 84 original engraved printing plates after watercolors by Rummell including PANORAMIC VIEWS OF THE ENTIRE CAMPUSES OF HARVARD, YALE PRINCETON, DARTMOUTH, SMITH, BROWN, PENN, MICHIGAN, VIRGINIA, PENN STATE, WESLYAN, ETC. Image sizes: 48 approx. 17x29 inches, remainder approx. 8x15 inches (generally very good condition).
Rummell's work included not only the existing buildings on campus at the time of his painting, but constructions to be completed in the near future. This practice led to some interesting depictions if building plans changed dramatically. Most images were sepia-toned and the original printing ended up almost entirely with the institutions depicted. The detail of his panoramic views suggests that he might have worked from a balloon, as there would rarely be any natural elevation high enough for the task.
