Lot Essay

Windsor chairmakers seldom tried to bridge the gap between their own turned chairs and upholstered chairs. However, this chair is a rare example of one which does exactly that. A small number of similar examples are known and one of these is illustrated in Dr. B. Cotton The English Regional Chair, Woodbridge, 1991, p.196, fig. NE355.
