A NEOLITHIC PAINTED POTTERY JAR
GANSU/YANGSHAO CULTURE, BANSHAN PHASE, CIRCA 2500 B.C.

The high shoulder painted in black with sweeping, serrated and plain swirling lines enclosing oval medallions alternately filled with solid or fishnet diamond pattern, the scalloped border below interrupted by a pair of lug handles positioned below a pair of small tabs projecting from the neck just below the lipped rim, one handle repaired--16½in. (41.9cm.) across handles
