Lot Essay
Alejandro Otero began his Coloritmo series upon his return from Paris in 1952. The Coloritmos responded to the artist's investigation towards the creation of a fully visual and autonomous art object. Otero worked under this spell until 1960, when he returned to Paris. Today, this body of work is considered one of the most important contributions to the art practices of Latin America in that decade, marking a rupture with Concretist theories while creating abstract constructions that vibrate due to the method of rendering color upon color on a rectangular composition.
