Lot Essay

Compare the very similar example from the Desmond Gure Collection included in the exhibition, Mostra d'Arte Cinese, Venice, 1954, no.222; illustrated in the exhibition The Arts of the Tang Dynasty, London, 1955, Catalogue, no.313, pl.17b; illustrated by S. Howard Hansford, Chinese Jades, pl.71A and in Bulletin of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm, Tang Arts Throughout the Ages, pl.20(2).
Compare also the closely related small jarlet surrounded by similar birds described as turtle doves and sharing the same tone and patina to the present example illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures at the Palace Museum, Beijing, vol.II, Jadeware, The Commercial Press, Hong Kong, 1995, p.36, no.33; and another exhibited, Arts from the Scholar's Studio, The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong and the Fung Ping Shan Museum, 24 October - 13 December 1986, Catalogue, no.236, p.244 and 245.
