Lot Essay

Compare the example with a Qianlong mark sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 27 April 1997, lot 14; and the vase illustrated in Robert H. Clague Collection Chinese Glass of the Qing Dynasty 1644-1911, p.17, no.1.

A possible source of inspiration for this type of carved glass bowl is a Ming jade bowl, in the Qing Court collection, The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Jadeware (II), vol.41, Hong Kong 1995, no.188, p.242 and 243, as it clearly indicates a related subject-matter and carving technique.
