A RARE ZITAN BRUSH CASE, INK BOX AND COVERS

The long case drilled to hold two brushes of large and smaller size, the exterior finely incised with two inscriptions extolling the virtues of ink and brush hairs and a seal between key-pattern around the base and cover, each side of the ink container finely carved in shallow relief with a quatrefoil containing a similar incised inscription between chilong dragon handles above key-pattern around the base, signed and dated on the base of the ink box, bing wu year, made by Yu Tu, the inscriptions variously in running and clerical scripts, the cover attached by a string with an agate toggle
