A RARE IMPERIAL EMBROIDERED LIME-GREEN-GROUND SILK THEATRICAL ROBE

Finely embroidered on the green ground with large cranes in flight with outspread wings, grasping various 'auspicious objects' in their beaks amidst cloud wisps, the shoulders with two large roundels, one of the hare stirring the elixir of life, the other of the three-legged cockerel, the panels enclosed by a wide black border decorated with couched gold dragons chasing flaming pearls, with a ruyi-form collar decorated with fruit and flower roundels and cream-embroidered cuffs, picked out in brightly colored threads against a bright green ground, cuffs and collar 19th century replacements--54½in. (138.4cm.) long
