A RARE EMBROIDERED REDDISH-BROWN-GROUND SILK CHILD'S ROBE
LATE 19TH CENTURY
Worked in satin stitch, Peking knot and couched gold threads with eight writhing dragons confronting flaming pearls amidst cloud scrolls, bats and large peony heads, all above the terrestrial diagram with lishui stripe emblazoned with further peony at the hem, all picked out in shades of yellow, blue, red and green against a pinkish-brown ground, with a dark blue-ground dragon border at the collar and cuffs and striped sleeves--36½in. (92.7cm.) long
