A FAMILLE VERTE BISCUIT BAMBOO-FORM TEAPOT AND COVER
KANGXI

The cylindrical body molded as a bundle of twelve bamboo sections, decorated on each node with floral sprays alternating with birds in flight, all on alternating grounds of pale aubergine, yellow, turquoise and green, set on one side with a ribbed, loop handle opposite an upcurved spout also simulating bamboo, the flat, inset cover similarly decorated and set with a small loop-form handle, glaze flaw to cover--4 in. (10.2cm.) high; together with a small pear-shaped bottle vase, Kangxi, painted in characteristic enamels and gilt with a pair of birds perched on flowering prunus branches growing from rockwork, minor foot rim fritting--6¼in. (15.8cm.) high (2)

Compare several similar bamboo-form teapots, including one illustrated by Walter Bondy, Kang-Hsi, Munchen, 1923, p. 166; one formerly in the Salting Collection, illustrated by Ayers, Far Eastern Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1980, no. 196 and also by Honey, Guide to Later Chinese Porcelain, London, 1927, pl. 56c.
