A GREEN-GLAZED ENGRAVED SAUCER DISH
QIANLONG SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD

The interior decorated with a scaly dragon leaping in pursuit of a flaming pearl amidst flames, with a frieze of two further dragons pursuing pearls on the wave-carved ground of the exterior, all in bright green enamel with black details; together with a blue and white dragon saucer dish, Zhiyuan tang zhi mark in underglaze blue within a double square, 18th century, painted in bright tones of blue on the interior with a leaping dragon and on the exterior with dragons amidst clouds--7 and 6 5/8in. (17.7 and 16.8 cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

A dish similar to the green-glazed dragon dish, with a Qianlong reign mark, in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, was included in the exhibition, K'ang-Hsi, Yung-Cheng and Ch'ien-Lung Porcelain Wares from the Ch'ing Dynasty, 1986, Catalogue no. 86, p. 116

The hallmark, Zhiyuan tang zhi, on the blue and white dish, may be translated, 'Made for the Hall of Wide Extensions'
