TWO TIBETO-CHINESE GILT BRONZE FIGURES OF VAISHRAVANA AND MAHAKALA LATE 18TH CENTURY

The first depicting a form of Vaishravana, standing in alidhasana on a separately cast lotus base, his right hand holding a lotus bud and his left a mongoose, naked except for snake ornaments and a crown set with skulls, his angry face bearded, red flaming hairdress, resealed --5in. (12.7cm.) high; and a figure of Mahakala standing in pratyalidhasana on a separate cast lotus base, each of his six hands holding his specific attributes, tiger skin, elephant skin, dharmapala ornaments formerly set with stones, his face with angry expression, a crown of skulls, red painted flaming hairdress--4½in.
