The Westley Richards' inscription on this pistol is almost certainly genuine as the retailers have confirmed that it was delivered to them on September 27th. 1900. The presentation inscription is curious in pre-dating the actual date of supply and it could be that it has been added subsequently or that it denotes a retrospective presentation. The number 'J 192' is probably a South African registration number and 'C.M.R.' could stand for Cape Mounted Rifles, but this is supposition
