A fine pair of presentation 2in. binoculars, possibly by Troughton and Sims
constructed in aluminium with leather covering, shade slides and bakelite focussing knob. Contained within a plush lined wooden presentation box with label in lid for Troughton and Simms, the lid with inset brass plate engraved Presented by the British Government to John Rees, Second Mate of the Steamship "Ruabon", of Cardiff in acknowledgment of his humanity and kindness to the Shipwrecked Crew of the schooner "Mary Jane" of Lancaster which was abandoned off the North coast of Cornwall on the 12th. November, 1911 , brass lock plate and key -- 6in. (17.2cm.) wide, binoculars -- 6in. (16cm.) extended.
