A mid-19th. Century eight-day marine chronometer in the style of George Margetts
unsigned, circa 1800
The unsigned silver dial with Roman hour numerals, gold hour and minute hands, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials with blue steel hands, full-plate movement with steel balustrade columns and Barraud 'butterfly' winding assembly, earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance mounted between the frame with a circular access viewing port cut in the top-plate, large brass escape whell but of English lever format, oversprung blued steel helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jewelled locking stone mounted on pillar-plate, brass bowl, gimballe in later brass bound three-tier mhogany box, the middle section with inset unsigned bone disc, external brass drop handles, dial diam -- 108m; box -- 200mm.
