Imbued in superstition, the peach supposedly originated in China. It is not only believed to cure illnesses from a simple cough to rheumatism, but it also represents immortality and is an emblem of marriage. Taoist priests used the branches as seals for their talismans and the god of longevity is often pictured emerging from a peach. Blooming in China in February, at the same time of the New Year, peach charms are placed in the doorways of houses to prevent evil from entering.
