The ebonised base on bun feet supporting a velvet-covered moulding with foliate cast spandrels, the crystal column supported on a foliate cast gilt-metal foot with stylised eagles' heads, the circular glass dial with painted Roman chapters and a single gilt-metal arrow hands, the twin barrel movement with platform escapement and strike on a gong, the drive taken from a pin-wheel on the canon pinion, the plates stamped Le Compe A Paris No. 77; lacking glass dome
