The silvered dial signed Molyneux & Sons, 30 Southampton Row, London No. 1202, bold Roman hour numerals, gold hour and minute hands, subsidiary seconds dial with blued steel hand, up-and-down dial with gold hand, small size movement (diam 62 mm.), Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance with segmental heat compensation weights, blued steel helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jewelled locking stone, brass bowl gimballed in three-tier mahogany box, brass corners to top lid and base of bottom section, the middle section with small inset bone plaque(unsigned), external brass drop handles

Lot Essay

This chronometer was in service aboard the ship Gannet, vide T.Ainsley's, South Shields, Rate Certificate dated 28 April 1883.
