Tasting note: Certainly the outstanding wine of the vintage. 1983 was set for the same glory as 1982 had it not been for late rain. The commune of Margaux, however, was fortunate in avoiding the worst of the storms. Very deep in colour, still tight and ungiving but with an inner concentration yet to flower. Blackcurrant and briar perfectly combined. Plenty of structure and tannin; less flattering than the '82 but more elegant. layers of flavour and rich berry fruit. Still amazingly youthful and yet to reach its peak. Will certainly last. (T.Hudson)
