In the manner of Pierre-Antoine Bellangé, with rectangular padded overscroll back, sides, and seat upholstered in ochre cut velvet within an acanthus-carved frame, with reeded scroll arms above bold similarly carved supports, on leaf-tip carved moulded plinth-64¼in. (163cm.) wide

The distinctly carved restrained foliage on the frame of the offered lot is closely related to the carving on a fauteuil and a canapé by Pierre-Antoine Bellangé (1758-1827), maître in 1788, illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français di XIXè Siècle, 1984, pp. 50-55.
