The cover is inset with a Dutch medal commemorating the death of Cromwell, 3 September 1658. Several commemorative medals were struck in the Low Countries for some years after his death.

Unmarked, 19th century, the cover is inset with a Dutch medal commemorating the death of Cromwell, 3 September 1658. The crest engraved on the handle is that of Stanley.
Cylindrical on a domed base chased with a band of flowers and foliage on matted ground, the body chased overall with scrolling foliage and two portrait busts, a crest and motto within oval cartouches, on a matted ground, with hinged domed cover chased with flowers and foliage inset with a medal, with baluster thumbpiece and scroll handle engraved with crest and motto
