A Continental silver-gilt tankard
circa 1600, possibly Hungarian, unmarked
Tapering cylindrical on moulded foot with band of lozenges and fluting above, the body repouss and chased with three grotesque masks and bunches of fruits within scroll cartouches on matted ground, with demi-figure and flower scroll handle with claw terminal, the partly fluted hinged domed cover chased with band of strapwork and foliage and with openwork scroll thumbpiece and baluster finial, the interior of the cover applied with a disk engraved with inscription
