4 (295 x 305mm). 30 hand-coloured engraved plates by William Hooker, 27 after Elisabeth Matthews, 3 after Frances Knight. (Some light spotting of plates and text, occasional marginal soiling, without the index leaf.) Contemporary diced russia, sides with gilt border of oak leaves and acorns, gilt panelled spine, gilt edges (some soiling of covers, joints rubbed, upper joints cracked).

Thomas Andrew Knight, brother of Richard Payne Knight, devoted most of his life to the study of agriculture and horticulture, improving various kinds of fruit from seed produced by hybridisation and careful selection instead of the traditional methods of grafting; he was president of the Horticultural Society, 1811-1838.
