2 (277 x 182mm). Title within a woodcut border [McKerrow and Ferguson 20], printed in black letter and italics, with the final errata leaf. (Errata leaf skilfully repaired at inner margin, small repair in c1 affects text very slightly, very lightly washed.) Red morocco by Bedford, sides panelled in gilt and blind, arms of Herbert Norman Evans at centre of sides and his monogram and crest in 3 compartments of spine, gilt edges. Provenance: Thomas [?] Knyvett, possibly a son of Sir Thomas Knyvett, died 1512 (signature on title); Edward Flowerdew, died 1586 (signature on title).

FIRST EDITION of More's refutation of Tyndale's Answere to More's own Dyaloge...wherein be treatyd...of the...worshyp of ymagys, printed by his nephew William Rastell. This first part contains three books; another six followed in the second part printed in the following year. Edward Flowerdew, judge, the fourth son of John Flowerdew of Hethersett, Norfolk, obtained considerable celebrity as a lawyer in his own county and was Member of Parliament for Castle Rising, 1572-158. He became sergeant and recorder of Great Yarmouth in 1580 and four years later third baron of the exchequer. He died of gaol fever in March 1586 when on circuit in South Wales. The DNB says of him 'He was a man of grasping temper, but apparently not of fine feelings'. STC 18079; Gibson 48.
