Half-titles to each volume, 2 folding engraved maps, 14 engraved views on 13 folding leaves by Bourrit and Geissler after Geissler, Tpfer and Wexelberg, and 6 letterpress tables. (Light dampstaining in vol. I, occasional very light spotting, a few pencil scribbles, a few hinges reinforced.) Contemporary sheep-backed boards (scuffed, repairs at hinges, corners renewed). Provenance: Tham (contemporary inscription on first title).

The Swiss mountaineer and scientist Saussure first published the first volume of his work in 1779, and the second in 1786 in 4 format; in 1796 a further two volumes were published.
