1980 MERCEDES-BENZ 280SE
Chassis No. 116 024 12 153591
Engine No. 116 024 12 18759
Pewter with black leather interior
Engine: inline six cylinder with dual overhead camshafts, 168 ci., 142bhp at 4,750rpm; Gearbox: automatic; Suspension: independent all around with unequal length A arms and coil springs in front with swing axle and coil springs in the rear; Brakes: four wheel discs. Left hand drive.
In 1979 Mercedes-Benz debuted the new S class line of automobiles with a resounding success. The 2.8 liter saloon became a huge success, breaking Mercedes-Benz sales records in 1980. The sedans offered the buyer a comfortable, amply powered and attractively designed four door that had little competition. For the large majority most of the sedans sold in America were diesal, only 30 were actually gasoline powered, with the car on offer here being one such example. Amenities included air conditioning, power windows, brakes, steering as well as a luxurious leather interior.
The example on offer here appears to be in very presentable condition and shows just over 35,000 miles. The paintwork is in very good condition, as is the exterior brightwork. The black leather seats and interior are also in presentable, well maintained condition. The engine bay and motor appear to be original and in good order. The trunk is quite clean and includes a full size spare tire. This 280SE is complete with air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power steering as well as an aftermarket Sharp radio and cassette deck. This early S class Mercedes-Benz 280SE appears to be a well maintained example of the luxurious and spirited sedans that continue to be built today and accordingly warrants close inspection.
