A finely illustrated edition of the Geneva version of the Bible in French, with Holbein's series of Old Testament illustrations of 88 blocks, two others (Adam and Eve, and Jonah and the Whale) are not considered Hobein's work (cf. Mortimer, Harvad French 72). The Bible text is exceptional by including III Maccabees; the attention of the reader is directed to this fact in the address on the verso of title. It may have been translated from the Latin edition of 1532 printed at Lyons by Trechsel, and it is possible that it was translated by Michael Servetus, who was working as a corrector for the Trechsels at the time and who made other contributions to that edition (cf. Chambers). Baudrier X, 123-4; Chambers, Bib. French Bibles 146. B1550arn.
