Lot Essay

This appears to be a preliminary study by Dubois Drahonet for his portrait of Lord Arthur Hill (Royal collection No. 2116, see Miller and Dawnay). He was commissioned into the 10th Hussars in 1810, subsequently transferring to the Greys, with whom he fought at Waterloo. He took command of the regiment in 1827.
