An 1897 pattern sword of exceptional quality, by HENRY WILKINSON (Sr. No. 50314), the blade etched with GVR cypher, foliate decoration and inscription PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN WML ESCOMBE DSO 20TH BN. LONDON REGT. (BLACKHEATH & WOOLWICH) TF BY THE PARTNERS & STAFF OF ESCOMBE McGRATH & CO. LONDON, MANCHESTER, LIVERPOOL, SOUTHAMPTON, GLASGOW, MIDDLESBRO., BIRMINGHAM & GRIMSBY. IN COMMEMORATION OF HIS GALLANT ACTION AT GIVENCHY BLUFF MAY 28TH 1915; the hilt of regulation GVR pattern, the guard, ferrule, pommel and backpiece all in silver (HM London, date-letter omitted), complete with brown pigskin sword-knot and scabbard.
