Surgeon Thomas M. Costello is verified aboard H.M.S. Bellerophon for the period August to October 1854 and the Britannia for the latter period until August 1856. He had originally been appointed an Assistant Surgeon in January 1842, was advanced to Surgeon in August 1854 and retired in April 1870 (P.R.O. ADM 196/8 refers).
