Diamond Fields Horse
Raised in 1876, and originally titled the Dutoitspan Hussars, the D.F.H. served under Captain (later Sir Charles) Warren in the Ninth Kaffir War and Northern Border Wars, sporting corduroy kit. A 100-strong Contingent under Captain Steward served against the Sekukini in 1878. The unit received 305 Medals, 156 of them with '1877-8' clasp.
