The Cape Mounted Riflemen
Raised long before other Colonial Corps, the C.M.R. was engaged against the Galekas, Gaikas and other tribes between 1877-78, and in force during the Zulu War of the following year when it was particularly distinguished at the storming of Moirosi's Stronghold on 8.4.1879, where three Riflemen won the Victoria Cross. The unit was issued with over 650 Medals, 91 of which went to No. 6 Troop, 36 of them with the '1877-8-9' clasp.
