Sold with original wartime photograph of the recipient and his crew.
Chief Officer Petre N. Boon-Mills volunteered for service in the Royal Air Force in 1940 and was trained as a Wireless Operator and Air Gunner. He went on to complete 33 operations in Stirlings and Lancasters of No.'s 15 and 44 Squadrons, Bomber Command, including the famous raid on Peenemunde in August 1943. Afterwards transferring to Transport Command, Boon-Mills operated in Dakotas on supply and pick-up duties over Burma. Invalided home in 1945, he next joined the Federation of Malaya Police as a Lieutenant and served in the Malayan Emergency prior to joining the Prison Service in Kenya, where he served as a Chief Officer in the Mau-Mau troubles.
