Private Michael Ndhlovu, a Zulu from Botha's Hill, Pinetown, was onetime attached to the 64th Air School at Bloemfontein.
Acting Lance-Bombardier Gert Johanes van Wyk Le Grange joined up in October 1939, aged 35 years and was initially attached to 4th Field Battery, 2nd Field Brigade. Afterwards posted to 2nd Battery, 1st Anti-Aircraft Brigade in Egypt, he was advanced to Acting Lance-Bombardier in August 1940. Le Grange was discharged as medically unfit in August 1941.
Air Sergeant Francis Maxwell Catto, a British citizen, served briefly with the Transvaal Scottish between 1929-30. Joining the S.A.A.F. in May 1940, aged 28 years, he was attached to the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, South African Armoured Cars in North Africa and gained advancement to the rank of Air Sergeant in September 1942. Catto was discharged in October 1946.
Sergeant Edward Hubert Irvine Hogan joined the South African Artillery in October 1939, aged 22 years and served in 5th Field Battery in North Africa from June 1941. Advanced to Sergeant in late 1943, he was discharged in October 1944.
Sapper Alexander Armstrong Douglas, a miner from Klipfontein, joined the S.A.E.C. in July 1941, aged 18 years. Onetime attached to 13th Field Company, he saw active service in Egypt and Italy between May 1943 and July 1945, and was discharged in December 1945.
Private Neil Burns Minto May, a British citizen, joined the Royal Durban Light Infantry in June 1940, aged 19 years. Arriving in Egypt in July 1941, he went on to serve with the 2nd Battalion in North Africa until January 1943. Subsequently transferring to the 1st Battalion, he served in the Italian Campaign between 1944-45 and was discharged in August of the latter year.

Temporary Acting Corporal Samuel Weiner, a Jew from Johannesburg, joined the South African Air Force as a Mechanic in January 1940, aged 21 years. He was subsequently attached to No. 12 Squadron in Egypt and to 11 and 60 Squadrons during the Italian Campaign. Weiner was discharged in October 1945.
Sapper Kenneth George Stewart, a Coach Trimmer from Durban, joined the S.A.E.C. in January 1942, aged 27 years, and was discharged in March 1946. His awards are sold with a quantity of original documentation.
