Sold with the original Bestowal Document (with translation) to Sir Edward Thomas Frederick Crowe, dated the 12th month of the 29th year of Showa.
Sir Edward Thomas Frederick Crowe, [K.C.M.G.], was born in 1877 and was educated at Bedford School. Appointed a Student Interpreter in Japan in 1897, he later held various Consular positions in Yokohama, Kobe and Tamsui before being appointed Commercial Councellor to H.B.M. Embassy in Tokyo 1918-25. In 1911 he was appointed Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George and in 1922 he was Knighted. Service with the Department of Overseas Trade followed, and he became Controller-General in 1928 until his retirement in 1937. In 1930 he was promoted to Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. Amongst the numerous positions held in later years was the Presidency of the Japan Association 1951-52. In 1955 he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure First Class. He died in 1960.
