Lieutenant-Colonel William Allan McDougall, D.S.O., O.B.E., was born in 1868 and entered the Army Veterinary Corps in June 1893. A Veterinary Officer with the 1st Brigade on the North West Frontier of India during 1897-98, he was present at the attack and capture of the Tanga Pass. McDougall retired in September 1913 but rejoined to become Assistant Director of Veterinary Services with the 46th Division from February 1915 to June 1917, and with the 1st Division until the end of the War. For his many services he was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, an Officer of the Order of the British Empire and was four times Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazettes 15.6.1916, 4.1.1917, 20.5.1918 and 5.7.1919 refer).
