Captain Sydney Seekins, M.C., was born in 1883 and enlisted in the 13th Hussars at Leeds in November 1900. Clearly a popular and capable man, he had risen to the rank of Squadron Sergeant-Major by late 1912. According to at least one letter of reference, his M.C. was an award 'for bravery in the field', a not unlikely scenario given his Warrant Officer status. Certainly one Regimental History credits him with being in action at Tekrit in November 1917 and being cited for bravery near Balban, in May 1918, when the 13th Hussars 'galloped forward' under a heavy fire and dismounted to engage the enemy in their trenches. Seekins was finally discharged in November 1921 but returned to uniform with a Commission as Adjutant of the Batley Home Guard in the 1939-45 War.
