Sold with an original invitation to the marriage of H.R.H. The Princess Elizabeth to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, November 1947.

D.S.M. London Gazette 27.6.1941. Recommendation states
'Acting Petty Officer Dunscombe, has since the outbreak of the War shown outstanding leadership, zeal, energy and devotion to duty. For 13 months while a Leading Seaman he carried out the duties of a Petty Officer and, for a shorter period, of a Gunner's Mate with exceptional ability, authority and tact. He has the Quarter Bill Station of a Director Layer. In this engagement it is considered that both aircraft were brought down by well directed barrage fire in director firing. The enemy were only in sight for brief periods and the bearing and angle of sight were changing rapidly and irregularly but the Director quickly got onto the targets and held them until they were crippled or destroyed. By his coolness, quick thinking and good judgement, Petty Officer Dunscombe contributed more than any other Rating to the effectiveness of the fire and the success of the action'.

The above action took place on 26.1.1941, the Recommendation stemming from the C. in C. Rosyth.
