Lot Essay

Compare the group of rock crystal amulets, including one of a scallop, found in a woman's grave in the Piraeus, and now in the Benaki Museum, no. 45 in. Bromberg, Gold of Greece, Jewelry and Ornaments from the Benaki Museum.

The numerals suggest that the amulet may have functioned as a theater ticket. For other examples see fig. 813 a-f in Bieber, The History of the Greek and Roman Theater.
