A ROMAN GREEN JASPER RING STONE
circa 2nd century a.d.
The oval stone engraved with a figure of the healing god Asklepios, standing with a mantle draped over one shoulder and around his waist and legs, leaning on his staff which is entwined with the serpent, holding a small figure of Nike in his right hand, a tree in front of him, a short groundline below, framed by a Greek inscription, PAFRODEITO, presumably the name of the owner, Epaphrodeitos, cut to be read on the stone rather than in the impression; mounted in a modern gold ring with filligree and granulation on the shoulders
